Viral marketing and website traffic

In essence viral marketing is based on spreading an idea by communicating it to others who like it and in turn pass it on until it is dispersed among a whole crowd of interested people who continue to spread the word. Viral marketing therefore takes effect among communities with common motivations and behaviours.

Your idea could be a service or a product you're trying to promote such as an e-book about "Practical Viral Marketing" which you have written yourself and which you intend to sell for $47 at Clickbank (this is purely hypothetical).

For your idea to take root, you start by offering something for FREE like an e-book called, let's say "The Power of Viral Marketing" which anyone can easily download from a link that you would give out. 'Free' is the magic word. It attracts most people and although the Internet is nowadays loaded with freebies, your Free e-book is bound to be in demand since the subject interests most business-minded individuals.

The Free e-book sings the praises of viral marketing, about how it is known to be among the most powerful avenues of attracting targeted traffic and explains how to market a product with little or no expenses involved and why viral marketing attracts affiliates to work for you and so on.

The Free book would contain material from the mother book, a taste of what to expect just to whet the appetites of the readers but holding back on the important tips and tricks. Above all skilfully embedded in its pages are several Links recommending your product "Practical Viral Marketing" which you have put up for sale.

When someone downloads the Free book it would automatically be rebranded with his personal link so that he/she could offer it Free to his contacts as if it were his/her own, perhaps as a bonus for joining his mailing list or whatever. This could be seen as an incentive as well. Known as rebranding on-the-fly, it saves a lot of hassle to the person downloading who could otherwise not bother to download at all. Every time someone gives away the Free book he/she is dispersing links to your Product far and wide and this process could improve your sales exponentially within a relatively short time.

Now we need to promote the Free book. One option is to submit it to the Free e-Book Directories but the best way, in my opinion is by writing an article to introduce it. Articles get massive circulation and in our case the Article could focus maybe on "How to market a product on a very tight budget".

You can start by saying that viral marketing does not even require a Domain or a Website and perhaps weigh V.M. against PPC campaigns which are very costly by comparison. Continue to fill up with material from the Free book itself. The Article would of course have a link to the Free book and to make things more viral still, permission could be granted to the user of the Article to change the Link to point to 'his' Free book. To promote the Article put up an advert and/or include a link in your Signature File when sending e-mails.

We have put up a system where the Article presells the Free Book which in its turn recommends the product that we are promoting. The customer arrives at the Sales Page step by step all the while becoming more and more convinced that the right decision is to purchase the product. Viral marketing, as its name implies spreads like a virus and if well set up, this marketing strategy would continue to run by itself with little or no effort on our part.
