Website ABC

Let me take you through the simple steps of how to create a website / blog that that can possibly generate an income for you. If I can do it then you can do it also. I also had to start somewhere before I created my websites. Through various trials and errors and experience, I have managed to create decent websites that pay my bills today. You can also.

To Create a Website is Simple and You Can Do It.

The core website creation topics on this site are as follows:

  • how to plan a website
  • how to create a website
  • how to generate targetted website traffic to your site
  • how to make money online with your website

You will learn how to create a free website in easy steps. Even if you have never created a website before.

You will need to do the following to create a website or even a blog. It is a good idea to write down or type out your website creation plans.

2 Create A Website  1. Plan What You Want To Do And How You Going To Execute It
  • Decide if you want to create a free website / blog or pay for it. Remember free websites and blogs have lots of limitations that can be negative in the long run. If you have your own paid site then you will definitely have more control of it What I mean with a paid site is - You buy your own domain name (www dot com) and web hosting (place where all your web pages, images and files will be).

  • What type of website or blog do you want to create? Do want to make money with your site by selling products - affiliates, advertising etc. or create a non profit site. Do you want to include social functionality eg. a web forum, a blog, video or interactive site. You decide. You can always start a basic site and later on add some other functionality. Are you going to create a static HTML website or a dynamic Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress etc. website. Or a dynamic e-commerce site with Oscommerce or Virtuemart Joomla shopping cart.

  • Choose a topic (niche). The topic that you will choose will be something that you have knowledge or are passionate about. If you don't know the topic then you will have to do research eg. buy books, search for info on internet or hire a writer that will be able to write articles for you.

  • Who is your target market? Is your target market or audience local or international. Are you targetting specific age groups or interests groups?

  • If you choose to pay for your site then who's going to design it? Are you going to design the site yourself or hire a web designer or programmer? If you choose to design the site yourself then you will need to learn HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) or get an idea of how to do it.

  • What program are you going to use to design the site? You can use Microsoft Notepad in Windows or buy webdesign software eg. Dreamweaver or Microsoft Web Expression. There are lots of other free HTML editors and visual ones that you can use.

2 Create A Website  2. Register A Domain Name (Choose Web Address Name)

So you have finished with the brainstorming and planning of your future site(s). Congratulations!

The next step will be to get a name or identity for you website. This name or address of your website will act like an home address where people can find your site. If the postman wants to deliver mail at your home then he will need to have your address. The same principle applies with websites.

Now you have two ways to get a domain name:

1. Get a free domain name -

We all like freebies, but as with most things in life (where freebies are concerned) there is a catch. The pro is it's free, but the con is that your domain name will include somebody else's name as well. eg. www.someoneelsename.com/yourname. As you can see the name don't look pretty, because you would like something like this www.yourname.com

* If you really want a free or domain name then you can get it here, but you will have to pay a small fee.

* You will get the following with a professional Web Hosting plan:

  • Free Domain Name
  • Unlimited Hosting Space
  • Unlimited File Transfer
  • Host Unlimited Domains
  • Free Site Builder
  • 24/7 Hour Support
  • and many more...

2. Pay for your domain name -

All of my personal website domain names, are paid for. It just looks better and more professional if you have your own domain name. Another benefit is that you will be promoting your own brand and not somebody else's.

2 Create A Website  3. Get Web Hosting For Your Website (Where All Your Files Will Reside)

You are done with your website brainstorming and planning. You also decided to get a free or paid domain name.

The next step will be to get web hosting for your website. There are 3 options to choose from:

1. Host your website on your own server -

This can be done, but the problem is that your server will have to be 24/7 online. You will probably need to hire a technician that will manage server for you. Duties that needs to be done is 99.99% uptime, backups, security etc. You can also do this yourself, but it can be costly and you will have to be dedicated to manage web hosting server.

2. Rent monthly Website Hosting space on Web Host company server -

I personally host all my websites on web hosting company servers. The nice thing about this is, that I have less stress. Don't have to worry about uptime and backups, hiring extra staff, etc. Cheaper and more reliable solution. Let somebody else worry and take responsibility of having your site online 24/7.

3. Get free website hosting -

I know it's human nature to want things for free, but free is not always best. You can get your site hosted for free, but then the hosting company might want to have a banner ad or popus to cover the cost for the free hosting. From personal experience I've learned that some of these web hosts are not reliable. Customer support is poor. Downtime occurs alot.

So there you have the 3 ways of hosting your site. You decide and choose, but choose wisely.

The next step will be to create the website, but that is another story. Check out the other articles on the site and also play around with the online code testing lab. From there you can learn how to promote your site and the lastly to make money from it :)
